I founded umi after a year of travelling.
On remote islands and overnight boats I saw turquoise water streaked with plastic - and realised I couldn’t even buy a box of tampons if I tried. Lugging months of disposables wasn’t an option and tossing them overboard was unthinkable.
I’d brought a menstrual cup, but changing it on long day trips, in cramped, unsanitary toilets was frustrating, messy, and far from ideal.
So I designed a reusable menstrual disc that fits in a pocket, works for 12 hours, and leaves nothing behind except good memories.
Today umi is more than my travel fix. One disc replaces 240+ pads or tampons every year - cutting down on waste, protecting our oceans, and giving anyone, anywhere, a cycle they can rely on.
